Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to provide compassionate, dignified, and effective mental health services to individuals and families in the southwest suburbs of Chicago; using evidence based practices and the highest standard of care, and with respect for privacy, economic access, and the unique nature of each individual’s needs.
Our vision is to empower people to live happy, healthy, and satisfying lives – through the support of nurturing relationships that inspire hope, courage, purpose and resiliency.
If one of us can’t help you directly, we’ll do our best to help you find someone who can.
We have been providing mental health services in the southwest suburbs of Chicago since 1985. Dr. Marlin Hoover started the practice in association with Dr. Carol LeFevre and Dr. Sandra Burkhardt. They knew each other from their professional collaboration as faculty members in the Department of Psychology at St. Xavier University. Over the years, new clinicians joined the practice, and some of the early associates moved on to other phases of their careers.
The first location of Hoover & Associates was in Orland Park. At one location on Ravinia Ave., the office setting included a peaceful water garden… the inspiration for our logo and slogan, “find your stepping stones.” Due to our growth and expansion, in 2006 we moved to our beautiful location in Tinley Park, at 16325 S. Harlem Ave, Suite 200. It is easy to find, convenient, comfortable, spacious, accessible by public transportation, wheelchair accessible, and has free parking. Most recently, we have expanded even further, to include the suite next to our original office space, and we have completed exciting updates to our suites.
Our Current Practice
Over the years, we have carefully added more clinicians, who are able to provide even more specialties and services. For example, we now provide services not only in English, but also in Spanish, Polish, and Korean. In addition to the services listed above, Hoover & Associates is unique in providing specialty services like art therapy, movement based psychotherapy, biofeedback assisted relaxation training, and cognitive retraining through the Cogmed program.
Hoover & Associates is also licensed to provide state mandated Continuing Education (CE) workshops for psychologists, social workers, and licensed clinical professional counselors. CE programs take place on Saturdays at our offices in Tinley Park. Interested professionals can review our Schedule of Continuing Education Events, and pre-registration is suggested as enrollment for these programs is limited.
Behavioral Care Management (BCM)
We are members of Behavioral Care Management (BCM), which “ is poised to become a large-scale consortium of behavioral care providers, servicing patients from the Wisconsin border to Kankakee, and from Lake Michigan to the Iowa border. It is a developing network that will have Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Clinical Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Addiction Specialists, working collaboratively to deliver a new healthcare product to the marketplace.”
Family Education Center (FEC)
We are affiliated with the Family Education Center. Several of our clinicians founded the FEC, which is co-located with Hoover & Associates, and through which clients are able to receive sliding-scale services.
South Suburban Youth Services Alliance (SSYSA)
We are members of the South Suburban Youth Services Alliance (SSYSA), a non-profit organization established in 1974, which is a coalition of community-based, youth-centered agencies, service providers, and other interested groups/individuals who collaborate to assist south suburban youth and families through counseling, mentoring, and education.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
We are active members of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research, and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope for all of those in need.
